Day 11 Neufchateau to Arlon

Monday June 19th

Yesterday was hot and today its getting really hot. The target setting out this morning was to reach Luxembourg City. It is 10.30 now and the signs are showing 33 deg. I am not sure that I will be going very far in this heat. I am stopped at the side of the road for a rest after yet another UP.

By 14.00 I have  had to give in to the heat. I was melted. I realise that this is starting to sound like briansbiggestmoanyet  but it was 35 in the shade (when I arrived at Camping officiel Arlon) I just couldn't drink enough to keep going.

I have reached Arlon which is close to the Belgian Luxembourg  border. The people of the town speak French but the site is yet again 100% Dutch.

I don't care I just had to get out of the heat.

It is a really nice site with good facilities including a pool for only 11 euros.

It is quaint. There are two young girls whose job is flower girls. They look after the hundreds of pot and hanging baskets. There is a statue of venus de milo and pictures of Greek temples IN THE TOILETS.

But the site is full. I am not sure I would have got in this evening.

After a visit to the pool to cool down (I was told when I came out that the pool didn't open until 16.00) I took the opportunity to wash my 10 days worth of smelly clothes. They are more or less dry now at  18.22.

A cold beer something to eat and a plan of campaign to reach Luxembourg tomorrow as easily as possible beckons.
My little tent surrounded by Dutch caravans

I went to the "vvv" tourist information on the way through Arlon.

The lady laughed when I asked if there was a flattish route I could follow to Luxembourg.

"Zees eez ze Ardennes"

We shall see what we shall see.

On vira.

An early  start is definitely required tomorrow - thunder storms forecast for the afternoon in Luxembourg.

  1. Good move, Brian. Nae medals for melting with the tar! Fresh smell. Fresh start on the next stage of this fantastic, but Brian achievable, challenge. No prizes at stake on this journey. You will still be a Young Age Pensioner on your birthday so get there when you get there. I am confident you will achieve your goal and celebrate in style as usual but you have days up your sleeve so use the chance to rest if that is best long term option for achievement of your goal. Keep smiling. Keep up your fluids and keep up your pecker as they say in Fife. Keep rolling. S&B.
