Day 2 Innerleithen to Seahouses

Sunday June 11th

Home of the famous Melrose sevens

Showered and shaved, I took the tent down in the rain, and set out for Seahouses, with little expectation of reaching there. I had arranged with Pauline that if I didn't think I could make it she would come and ferry me to a station. I know this sounds incredibly negative but I was trying to be realistic after the day before.

Pauline was being incredibly supportive. She would put her life on hold for three days until I got on the ferry to IJmuiden.

However the rain kept the wind bearable and first Galashiels then Melrose and  Kelso disappeared behind me.
Bridge over the Tweed

Next was Coldstream and I  was into England.

Country 2.

The Tweed valley was flat and I was making good progress until I foolishly chose to follow the National Cycle route 1 again.

Some people are slow on the uptake.

The hills got steeper but I limped into the campsite at Beadnell, just beyond Seahouses at about 7pm
Country 2

It was a camping and caravan club site and I feared being turned away as a non member.

However I was warmly welcomed and charged the princely sum of £7.35.

The host assured me that they would always find a space for a touring cyclist or backpacker which was reassuring and encouraging.

The onsite fish and chips with mushy peas certainly hit the spot.

Nearly there but still 53 miles to go by 16.00 tomorrow,
