Day 9 Warve to Profondville

Sunday June 18th

I opened my Father's Day card which I had carried with me from Freuchie at about 7.30 just after I got a text from Simon. Does he never sleep? It was a lovely card with a lovely message inside which spurred me on my way.

The route today was a means to an end. I was squashed alongside the N4 on poorish surfaces which rolled endlessly up and down but were never flat.It reminded me of the Champagne district in France.

It was called the "pays des vallees " countryside of the valleys which tells you everything about the topography.

Madame sat nav tried to take me into the countryside but I was having none of it.

The RN4 must have been a Roman road because it was arrow straight.

Namur
I reached Namur without incident at lunch time when a nice young Belgian girl in the Tourist Information office sorted me out with a map for the next stage where I will follow the Meuse.

an acre to myself
I treated myself to an early stop and I am ensconced in camping le Douaire at the top of a very steep hill. 10 euros for the night and 2 euros of that was for a shower!

River Meuse
The Meuse reminds me of the Dordogne.

I'm hopeful of cooler tomorrow because it reached the thirties today.

 I am striped!

  1. Brian - another well done! Knew that the section to Namur and down by the Meuse could be a wee bit challenging at times - been down a few times by car. You will enjoy the views coming into Luxembourg. Only memory of Luxembourg is that you don't blink or you miss it. Don't look for signs for Keynsham, spelled K-E-Y-N-S-H-A-M or Horace Batchelor who gave the best tips for the Football Pools on Radio Luxembourg in my adolescence. All spoiled by Radio Scotland appearing. Sounds like that are lots of interesting and helpful people along the way. That's great and must be a huge psychological lift. If you still go for Lac Leman and Route 46 I am looking forward to your commentary on that. Thee are some magnificent climbs around Annecy that have featured in Le Tour. You should manage to escape any of that pain. Keep rolling and smiling. You can do it! I have committed your achievement to lots of people who have come with more relaxing approaches to status of OAP. Keep up the good work. B&S
