Friday June 16th
Today was an easy day. (should I say that? I am sure that I will pay for it later)
Alongside the Bruges to Ghent canal with a slight tail wind and pancake flat.

this bierhuis remained unvisited |
So, undaunted I set off inland to bypass the blockage which took me through a very unattractive industrial estate. As I headed back towards the canal a lady cyclist - Els, stopped me to warn me that it was still blocked and we would need to go even further around the blockage.
After we had got back on the canal path we got chatting. She had taken the train from Antwerp to between Bruges and Ghent and she was cycling home. Her English was excellent. She was a French teacher and RE.
We sped along with her assuring me that this was her normal pace and me proclaiming the same as I struggled to keep up.

Just arrived in Ghent |
The campsite I am on is part of a huge sporting park with rowing, canoeing, tennis, a sports centre, the Eddie Merx cycling centre and lots more.
Last night there were ten tents pitched on the size of pitch I have to myself tonight.

Well done, Brian. Life on the road us never straightforward as I so amply demonstrated last year. Note you didn't stop at Antwerp to buy Pauline a large diamond to compensate for her attack if bad nerves over your first few days. Everybody back here now totally relaxed as your progress is becoming a big more to expectations. Happy days and minimum diversions. Keep smiling.
ReplyDeleteHi Brian, we can hardly believe all you have achieved so far, not too mention the weather extremes, well done, you are amazing. Your blog is great, we can visualise your adventures and progress, take care,Good luck G & A
