Day 6 Nieuvweke Bad to Bruges

Thursday June 15th

Today was an  easy day.

For the first time in six days I did not set an alarm. I woke up around 08.00 feeling very tired. I
Sebastian
decided that it was time for a relaxing day and to try to sort out my communication problems. I was ready and out the gate by 10.00 and 100 metres on my way when something told me to go back and fill my water bottle.

Experience has taught me to be cautious with water. I am glad that I did because I met up with Sebastian from Germany who is trying to cycle around Europe's coastline in 3 months.

We had an immediate camaraderie - I really liked him. A fine young man. I hope he succeeds. We took selfies and exchanged blog addresses and wished each other well. A heart warming experience.

It was a short two hours trip along a flat road and then along side a canal from  Nieuvweke Bad to camping Menelem in Bruges

Magnificent central Brugge
It is a high tech site, where you check in by touchscreen, with not a human being in sight. Slightly unnerving but very well appointed and very clean and very international. My immediate neighbours are a lovely young Russian couple and on the other side is an incredibly outgoing Philippino male nurse who insists on calling me "Bri man."

A selfie in Brugge.
My technical difficulties continue. I cannot get my Chromebook to charge so I am reduced to plonk plonk on my phone to catalogue my adventures.

I went into central Bruges this afternoon by bike naturally.

The pavement is practically non - existent so everyone is on a bike except for the thousands of selfie snapping tourists.

Bruges is aptly named Venice of the North.

Brugge is pretty!

I plan to head for Ghent tomorrow.

  1. Brian - that is great that you had an easier day with plenty human contact to help you relax. More important that you are re-charged rather than any technology. Keep them wheels rolling. Namur and Luxembourg are beckoning and worth the effort. Hope the cream is doing its job! B&S
